Today was shoot weekend.
I had three shoots planned for this weekend, one on Saturday and two on Sunday.
I am in the middle of editing the last one, and need a break.
After looking at about 700 photos this weekend and watching 4/6 Lord of the Rings extended special features my eyes are kinda tired.
so I am taking a time out to blog.
I'm am very angry about Saturday, nothing went as planned :(
Here is what happened:
The location was set for cottesloe beach. I wanted to shoot whilst the tide was out, meaning a very early wake-up call.
I had been out clubbing the night before, head hitting the pillow around 3am.
7:30am the alarm goes off....fuck.
do all the usual checks before i leave: costumes, battery, memory cards, lights, fuel.
check, check, check, check, and check.
Get to the meeting location and buy myself a hot chocolate and two coffees for the model and her BF escort.
10 mins past meet time, send a sms.
20, give her a call, no answer. 30 mins call home to check email: nada.
after 1+ 3/4 of an hour later and several sometimes anxious sometimes forceful phone calls and texts still no model. grrrr......
Flake!
its been three days since then and still have not received any kind of response from her, despite noticing she has been active on her MM account and my messages are marked as read.
So I have wiped my slate of her.
I worked that night in a nightclub, and whilst trying to talk over the top of loud music and people I lost my voice.
My voice is barely more than a whisper, Ive actually had to have my mother make phone calls for me and write her a script.
One up side though is I did not have to answer any spot questions in class today :P
onto happier times: Sunday!
The two models I shot Monique and Amy are best friends in RL, so that was nice.
Monique was first, The theme was inspired by buffy and a previous shoot of mine:

lots of pleather, dark styling and high fashion poses and popping colours. kinda vampish.
meet Monique, a cute doll faced blonde:

The location was an alley way in the inner city, situated behind Mcdonald's and other dis-reputable fast food restaurants. The place was full of cardboard boxes, weird stains and puddles, rubbish bins, crates and colourful graffiti.
This is the only Behind scenes shot I got

I asked Monique to jump inside a dustbin which had some interesting bricks and concrete shapes.
You can see all of the final photos on my Flickr account here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jessicatrus

Onto the afternoon shoot.
Meet Bree (left) and Amy (right)

Bree is a talented young make-up artist, who Ive not work with before, but hope to be doing so on a regular basis in the future.
Se we started the preparation in my backyard. the day was too nice to stay indoors.

tools of the trade
We wanted BIG hair, so lots of backcombing and crimping.
The theme was for night fashion with a animal twist running through each outfit. so we had lots of fur and leopard prints wooden accessories and feathers, even a stuffed zebra named Harold.
because of my voice i had to constantly be drinking tea, was also showing Amy some un-edited shots of her friend from that morning

The location was a rather creepy, abandoned house in the city.
There was so much graffiti (which I really like for photos) there was trash everywhere, evidence of drug use, squatters and even a suspiciously bloody shirt.
To get upstairs we had to climb over banistairs, walk across the tin roof and climb through a broken window to get inside.
climbing through the window:

inside:

before moving into new rooms my sister and i would shout out "Hello! is anyone here?, we are coming in. If you want us to leave just give us a shout and we will, no trouble!" it was really dodgy.
There had been a fire at one point, and much of the flooring had fallen though.
My sister Sarah came along to hold reflectors and speed lights. I call her my reflexpert, or reflexologist.

She gets bored alot.
Changing hair and make-up for an outfit change.

Bored again

holding up a fur blanket as a make shift backdrop.

That is Harold the Zebra on the left.
and something else happened to make me even happier after a good day. I was scheduled to work again that night, but the event was canceled at the last minute. because of the late notice i still get paid for not doing anything :D love when that happens.
now back to editing.........
